Salt, heat and concrete cover in Karachi

Karachi is a coastal city, and even houses well inland deal with humid, salty air and, on some plots, brackish groundwater. Steel does not care how good the elevation looks. If concrete cover is thin, moisture finds the bar, rust swells, and the plaster cracks in a line that follows the steel.

On site we check cover blocks before the pour, not after. We keep bars off the ground, we do not let a slab dry out in the first days of curing, and we ask about water on the plot before we choose how to treat the footing. Where the soil or water is aggressive, the cement and the damp-proofing deserve a conversation with the engineer — not a shortcut from the last job.

None of this shows up in a 3D render. It shows up ten summers later, when one house has clean ceilings and the one next door is chasing rust stains. That is the difference we try to build in.
